| | Hope for a Child believes that it is by reducing poverty in the
community that orphans and vulnerable children will experience better
care and increased stability within their extended families.
Hope
for a Child in partnership with experienced Microfinance partners
provides short-term loans together with business training and long term
monitoring for groups of women. This enables women to build self-sustainable commercial ventures in the areas in which we are working. The
result of this even in the short term is that women are able to feed,
clothe and educate their own and orphaned children that they support.
This
system is designed to give communities and families a steady income in
order that they can provide for themselves for the short and long-term.
We provide a hand up rather than a hand out.
| | Loans are normally made for a four month period. Up to four loans are
provided to each woman. It is common to see an income doubled after a
year of loans and business support. All repaid loans are recycled into
new ventures within the community.
Profit made by the Microfinance unit is used to pay the salaries of the loan officers, other
staff and run the infrastructure. We expect it to be close to being self sustaining after two years. This enables Hope for a Child to start up projects elsewhere.
