Principles to Guide Programming for Orphans and Other Children Affected by HIV/AIDS
This document provides counsel to guide local, regional, national, and international initiatives for children affected by HIV/AIDS. It was produced by the Informal Donors Technical Group on Orphans and Vulnerable Children. The principles were defined after discussions among national and international stakeholders at the July 2000 XIII International AIDS Conference in Durban and follow-up workshops.

Children on the Brink
This USAID report, first issued in 1997 and is updated every two years, with the most recent completed in 2004, was the seminal study to raise awareness of the needs of AIDS orphans. It tells the story of children affected by HIV/AIDS and provides core recommendations on addressing the global crisis. The website provides an executive summary of the July 2000 update.

Bernard van Leer Foundation
The Bernard van Leer Foundation (BvLF) is a private foundation created in 1949 that is based in the Netherlands and operates internationally. The mission of the BvLF is to enhance opportunities for children growing up in circumstances of social and economic disadvantage. The Foundation is concerned with young children's overall development, with special emphasis on children from birth to 8 years old. The Foundation therefore promotes a holistic approach including education, health and nutrition. BvLF works in the following African countries: Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a worldwide non-profit organisation dedicated to identifying, funding, and conducting research on pediatric HIV/AIDS and other serious and life-threatening diseases facing children. Its website includes research project descriptions and grant application information, and it allows for online donations. Its website also includes information on the Call to Action Project, a Foundation project to help reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV in the developing world.

Global Strategies for HIV Prevention
Global Strategies implements international strategies to prevent HIV infection, using strategic alliances and organising international meetings. Its website provides information on its campaign to prevent HIV transmission to newborns, program reports, and upcoming conference information.

Hope for Africa Children Initiative (HACI)
The Hope for Africa Children Initiative (HACI) is a partnership of CARE, Plan International, the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa, and the World Conference on Religion and Peace.

Health and Human Rights: The State of the World's Children 2003
UNICEF's 2003 edition of The State of the World's Children focuses on child participation and the importance of taking the opinions of children and youth into account when decisions are being made that affect them. The report, available in PDF format as well as a text-only version, includes examples of meaningful child participation from every region of the world. Statistical tables include indices from all countries and territories with particular reference to children's health and well being.
