Start Smart Academy

When we partner with people to help them address challenges in their community, we are always asking ourselves, how will this carry on without further grant funding? After a few years, will this continue to deliver an increasing level of impact if funding stops or shifts to a more commercial model?

Start Smart was established with the vision of providing quality care and education opportunities to vulnerable pre and primary aged children.

We are working with the centre to help it become a financially sustainable model, generating enough to sustain the invaluable services it is providing to vulnerable children.

So far the centre has experienced a lot of progress with our help — acquiring its own land, constructing a school block and water source, purchasing equipment and hiring staff.

The input the centre provides to children is of a high quality, attracting families who are able to pay fees typical of private schools. The remaining 50% of places are subsidised for vulnerable children from surrounding villages.

Start Smart also works with one of our other partners to provide support to the parents of the vulnerable children, helping them to overcome the economic and social challenges they face.
