Our team is made up of talented and committed staff and volunteers.

Roy Herring

Founder & Director

Roy and his wife Sue are joint founders of Hope for a Child, motivated by a heart to see children thriving.

Roy provided the vision and strategic direction to establish Hope for a Child and continues to be involved on a daily basis.

He previously worked in IT consultancy and business development.

Roy and Sue have four children — James, Nik, Tom and Isobel and a Goldador called Molly.

Tom Herring

CEO & Director

In 2013 Tom started to oversee our projects in Uganda and Malawi, and has since taken responsibility for overall management of the company.

Tom is a husband and dad of 2 champion boys. He has spent time working and travelling in central and east Asia, east Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has a BSc in International Development & Environmental Geography, and lives with a passion to see a world where extreme poverty no longer exists. He is particularly excited about lives being changed through business that does good for everyone.

He likes to spend his time baking bread, growing veg, foraging and bobbing about in the sea.

Mel Skillet

Assistant Fundraising Manager

Mel has been part of the team since January 2021 and although she gets involved in all aspects of the Charity she mostly focuses her time on The £5 Lottery Club and The Big Summer Lottery.

Mel has lived in Guernsey for nearly 11 years with her husband and two daughters, Lola and Daisy. Mel has a BSc in Nutrition and her passions in life are crafting and travelling.

Nik Herring

Marketing Manager

Nik has been responsible for the company’s brand and marketing for several years.

Nik studied Art and Design in Guernsey and Bristol. He is married to Sally with 3 amazing little people Zeph, Boaz and Apphia.

Sam Roussel

Marketing Assistant

Sam has been a part of the team since December 2020. His main focus is design and marketing for the Big Summer Lottery and £5 lottery Club campaigns.

His goal is to get people excited for the what Hope is doing on Guernsey and in the rest of the world.

Sam was born and raised on Guernsey and has always had a passion for making artwork. He is always looking for the next project to get his hands on.

Tricia Pill

Director

Tricia has lived in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian sub-continent with her family where she has been involved in community projects that enable women and girls to lead lives of dignity and self-responsibility.

Tricia brings a passion for seeing communities thrive through appropriate support to become self-sufficient.

Tricia is an Occupational Therapist and, with Bryan, recently completed an MA in Kingdom Theology. They have 3 grown-up children, brought up mostly overseas. Tricia loves reading, walking, enjoying these beautiful islands and relaxing with friends and family!

Jesufemi Ayoola

Director

Jesufemi grew up in Nigeria and has a strong passion for local community development and young people achieving their full potential. Jesufemi led the outreach team from his Nigerian church to schools and remote communities to provide medical supplies, clothes, skill training, and financial assistance.

Jesufemi is a team player with demonstrated leadership abilities who delivers change management and business transformation. He possesses a wide range of skills, including project management, design engineering, trading and investment, business analysis and management.

Before moving to the United Kingdom to pursue an MSc in Management, Jesufemi studied Chemical Engineering and worked for over five years in the oil and gas industry. He now lives in Guernsey with his family, working in finance within the risk and compliance function. Jesufemi enjoys playing the drums and piano, watching football and tennis.
